Check List When Entering
• You know where the key is; you’ll turn it left until you hear the dead bolt retract and keep turning until the latch retracts and the door opens. To keep from locking yourself out, push the button in the side of the door so it will not automatically lock. Be sure to change this if you’re gone for some time but be sure to take the key with you. If you lock yourself out, call:

• Turn A/C or heat to your preferred setting; thermo-stat is between the kitchen and bar.
• Sometimes, during the winter, we turn the water and the water heater off. Most likely, you won’t have to care about this; however, after you enter…check the water at the kitchen sink to make sure it’s on. If the water is on…just forget the rest of this.
If it hasn’t been done, you’ll need to turn the water on. You’ll go to the bas
ement on the side of the house (carport side) and slowly turn the yellow valve on (see photo). Then you’ll go to the utility room at the end of the front porch and look for the circuit breaker box. You’ll see the big double breaker marked water heater (see photo). Turn it on as it’ll take a while to get hot water. You’ll then need to turn every fixture on in the house to get the air out of the line; if this isn’t done, the pipes may rattle at night.
Building a Fire
To build a fire you’ll need to open the damper. Raise the fire screen and just above the right andiron and a little toward the back you’ll touch an iron bar. To open the damper you’d pull it toward the front of the fireplace; to close when leaving… you’d push it toward the back. Fire wood is on the screened porch. You’d use the “fire logs” (also on screen porch) on the bottom and wood on top. Place newspaper under the grate and light…pooff… you’ve got the best fire in NC.
